Hi everybody,
I was asked to translate some documents from a company based in the USA.

I took a look at the corporate web site http://fpcmodern.com/?lg=en&pg=home but I did not find any other trace of it through the web or of the person who sent me the request.

Does anybody of you know whether it is a trustworthy company or could it be a 'trap'?

Has anybody of you ever worked for or at it?

Thank you very much for your advice,

There is a phone number listed for the admin and tech contact, that you could call, but that maybe the company whom the domain name is registered with, not the actual company.

However, the most important and telling piece of info, IMHO is this:
The domain was registered on March 29, 2013.

Draw your own conclusions.
Katalin

Follow-up:
I just called the Leasing Office of 63 Wall Street. The number is listed on the building's website.
They said there is no such company in the building.

Without the company phone number, you can't even call to verify Apr 5, 2013

I think calling and talking to the contact person (or other staff in the company)on the phone is the best way to get a feeling.

I don't think so Apr 6, 2013

Well, let's say they list a phone number as a contact and you call and the person answering the phone says, yes, so and so works here, and yes, this is a real company.
Does that prove anything?

The company in question does not exist, at least not at the address they list on their website. Their website domain was registered a week ago, and they claim to be in the business for ten or so years?
Yeah, right.

Hmm, the web site looks a bit iffy, and I'm afraid I can't figure out from their web site what type of business they run. On the other hand, anything with "commerce" tends to be gobbledygook for me (especially if it's e-commerce), so perhaps what they have their actually makes sense to their clients.

While it is true that The Crest (at 63 Wall Street) is a residential building, I have no idea whether they would or would not allow a business to make use of it.

The text on their web site is just a tad too generic for my tastes (the exact same wording occurs on many other web sites about ecommerce or marketing or stuff). See here: http://tinyurl.com/ctu6t3a

And... googling the company name gets me no results... zero results.

I called the building's leasing office - they are not there Apr 6, 2013

Samuel,
As I wrote earlier, 63 Wall Street is a residential building, they have their own website.
If you look at it, you will see it is a luxury residential building, that pretty much tells you no businesses are allowed.
But if you want to make absolutely sure, you can call the Leasing Office, their phone number is listed on their website, and ask whether they have a tenant business with that name.
63 Wall Street
New York, NY 10005
Leasing office: 212-344-6363
Management Office: 212-706-3030

And this is exactly what I did.
I picked up the phone, and called the Leasing Office of 63 Wall Street, and talked to a lady there. She told me there is no such business in the building.

I cannot draw any other conclusion than this company is fake.
Katalin

Dear Kataline,
wow!!thank you very much for your kind help and your investigation activity!

I did have some suspects since the corp web site didn't sound to me at all!

But after reading all your comments I definitely think I was right!

I won't definitely accept any work from that "ghost" company!!

Kindest regards from Italy!

Karen

That's all I want to say: to get a feeling. Sometimes, you can get a feeling from a scam call too. Now that the scam has been established, everyone can get a life now.
