1. Introduction
(Rousset, 2007).

Summary
In order to quantify the beneficial effects of rainwater collection in mountainous areas on the development and growth of plants and on the amount of water stored in collection works, we completed two years of experimentation on the collection of rainwater by using the method called half-moon, which consists in installing a kind of small crescent-shaped earthen terrace just down every tree trunk, called, in this case, receiving area or catchment area.
To compare the effect of different catchment areas, we reinforced each half-moon with different areas catchment 0m2, 0m2, and supplemental irrigation, 32m2, 64m3 and 96m2, that is to say five presentations.
The results show a positive effect on the growth and development of young olive trees, both in leaves height and span, and the development of trunks diameter at the collar. This development is particularly important that the receiving area of the catchment is larger, which allows a larger water storage.
Indeed, the hydraulic balance at half-moons shows greater water storage in larger catchment areas (64 96m2).
Moreover, the amount of water stored in the center of the half-moon is twice as greater as in its two ends.
Keywords: rainwater collection, half-moon, olive growing, water stock.

Water is the source of life. It is indispensable to the survival of living beings: man, animals and plants. It is essential for all living ecosystems.
The issue of water in North Africa is a major challenge for a sustainable development of the region, and agricultural uses of the resource are the key point of the problem. Forecasting on climate change and demography shows that food and water needs are increasing in the region. (Rousset, 2007).
