For the first time in a good number of years, Wordfast has simply failed to "Save file as translated". My typical translation work involves converting a PDF document into Word to put it into Wordfast ("no translatable content" when I attempt to import directly) using Adobe's Export PDF. For the first time in a good number of years, Wordfast has simply failed to "Save file as translated". My typical translation work involves converting a PDF document into Word to put it into Wordfast ("no translatable content" when I attempt to import directly) using Adobe's Export PDF. The original had no "readable text", but Adobe delivered about 5600+ words. The error message from Wordfast: "An error occurred while saving the document. More details: An unexpected error occurred during align of the file. Placeable's buddy cannot be null." Running Transcheck, the problem is about 500 errors involving the tags created by Export in the source (most of them irrelevant in English) not being in the target. As I have a short deadline, and I don't actually need Word output as my normal workflow involves using a PDF editor to recreate the target file, I intend simply to copy from the Wordfast TXLF output. Is there an easier way? No problem with the 17000 word file in the same project. Years ago, I used online software to remove some or all of the tags. ▲ Collapse

I should have said that I am aware I could replace the tags in the target, I simply don't have the time. (Would I need to put them in the right place, or could I put them anywhere in the segment?) If there were an automatic way of doing this ...

Just for the record, I remembered the easy solution a few days after sending the translation to the client. It came from this forum quite a few years ago, but has been mentioned since. Use Transtools Preflight Checker to remove most of the tags. Add the amended file to the project, or set up a new one. The "Translate All" button retrieves nearly everything from TM.
