Off topic: saving translations during months/years Thread poster: Gretel Schoukens

Hello,
I am wondering how you save your translations... Do you save them, or is it sufficient to have them in your TM? If you save them, how long? In which way?
I used to have a folder for each agency, with in it a folder per month, in it for each translation... just because I feel safe to have them, 'in case I would need them', which of course is almost never the case... It takes a lot of place on my computer, so I would like to know how you deal with it!

I use a 1GB portable hard drive structured similarly (client name/month_year_folder/job_folder).
Have the TM and TB in the main client folder for easy access.

I save things I wouldn't want to lose to Dropbox - then they're still there even if something happens to your computer and you can access it from other places. | | | M. Anna Kańduła Біріккен Корольдік Local time: 03:42 Member (2006) English to Polish
I use Wuala for all sorts of backup copies, including old translations that I'm not obliged to delete after completion.

I save my TM and the source/target texts as well, as we can align them to get a "reverse" TM. I wouldn't risk deleting them, if they take too much space store them in an external hard drive. | | | practical reasons | Jan 13, 2014 |
I've had a couple of requests in the past, where an agency or end client will say "Do you remember that translation you did last summer about x? Would you mind digging it out for me?" Or something comes up now that relates to something done a while back. So unless I'm asked to delete the translation, I keep it on file and later archived on disk. I don't keep source texts.

Same here. I mentioned recently in a Quick Poll how clients have asked me for documents a couple of years after they were submitted. Having them saved (in my case on CDs) is a life saver for them. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » saving translations during months/years TM-Town | Manage your TMs and Terms ... and boost your translation business
