I received a message from someone named Jessica Kayla inviting me to do a translation; the message has a link to a profile on Proz.com but when I tried it, the system said that person was no longer here. It's an English to French translation about public organisation procedures research and offers to pay before the work is done--which is very odd--but I wonder if it's one of those where they send you a check for too much, ask you to refund the difference, and then you find the original check is ... It isn't clear to me what type of message you mean.
It was:
a) An email from this person account, like Gmail or any free email address?
b) An email from some paid domain address? Like an agency website.
c) A ProZ.com on-site message? That any member can send to another member.
d) A Proz profile message? That shows sender email address and IP number.

It was an email; as I said, it had a link to a Proz.com profile, but clicking on it just led to a message that person is no longer a member.

It was a Nigerian scammer

Jessica Kayla https://www.proz.com/profile/4293097 , presumably from the US,email [email protected] (now blocked) was a Nigerian scammer (IP 41.217.58.155), and the profile was removed as soon as it was noticed for mass emailing.
Hope this helps,
Natalia

Thank you. That is what I needed to know. I suspected as much, as you can tell, so I'm glad to receive confirmation of it.
