Sg. else from my average life - so, for ex., a lot more nature, quiet, solitude, mountains, mountain views and excursions, such like... and yes, without people as far as possible. | | | Lingua 5B Босния мен Герцеговина Local time: 00:04 Member (2009) English to Croatian + ...
Any of these, depending where and how I’m traveling. I only don’t like overly touristy places and tourist traps.
I haven’t travelled for a good while. Between 1986 and 2006, when I was living in Brussels, I did travel a lot. Then I got fed up with planes and airports and since 2015 I haven’t moved from Lisbon. Anyway, when I travelled, besides longer trips, I tended to favour city breaks. The fact that Brussels is located in the heart of Western Europe, made it easy and convenient…

When I was younger, I wanted the "authentic experience" - as I get older, the most important thing is a nice beach/lakeside and warm water to swim in, preferably not in a tourist trap! | | | Lieven Malaise Бельгия Local time: 00:04 Member (2020) French to Dutch + ...
In September I will be on a Rome trip with my eldest son, so that trip will be all about Ancient culture, delicious Italian food and hopefully also a visit to Vatican City. Not as a religious person, but as someone intrigued and fascinated by Roman Catholic history, culture and architecture.

For my yearly family vacation I mostly rent a holiday cottage in the Belgian Ardennes, and that's all about relaxation and hiking. And also enjoying food. The food is always important on holiday, no matter what type of vacation it is.
Finally I have also a traditional summer camping trip, purely for the love of camping which is luckily shared by my children.
It's nice to have all those vacation aspects in 1 summer (although the Rome trip is a son-turned-18-so-let's-do-something-special exception). ▲ Collapse | | | Thayenga Германия Local time: 00:04 Member (2009) English to German + ...
Just having returned from a nice, though short vacation this week, I found everything I was looking for/having been in need of. Peace of mind and relaxation in a truly authentic environment. There was entertainment when I wanted it, and solitude when I needed it. Additionally I have met some very nice and interesting people. This is what it's all about, getting away from everyday's life and activities. Not to forget recharging the batteries for the months ahead. ... No just any water, but swimmable water. We have a park with a very small pond, and people (unlike ducks and dogs) never swim there, but it's a popular sunbathing and barbeque spot. See more No just any water, but swimmable water. We have a park with a very small pond, and people (unlike ducks and dogs) never swim there, but it's a popular sunbathing and barbeque spot. I just walk there from time to time because the idea of coming to a place with water without a chance to have a swim it makes zero sense to me. Remembering the time when I went on a rafting toor in Karelia early in June. Others in the group were experienced rafters, so they had their swimwear for cold water and tons of alcohol. Not that I'm a teetotaler and not that they didn't offer me a drink, but I wasn't in the mood for drinking and hated the way they used alcohol (with tons of soda—liquid sugar, ew). That's when I first learned that many people, men and women alike, view such tours as drunken adventures. It didn't feel good to be the only sober person among drunk people I didn't know, but my first swim was something to write home about: the first rapid we had to tackle was the worst of them, the guy sitting ahead of me kept getting off-beat so I had to sync in with him because he was drunk and wouldn't listen to me, so we capsized in the middle of the rapid. Boy was that water cold! We had to tow raft ashore and take a few swims to rescue our bags. When the first day's rapids were done with, I took another swim, and a few more on a beach the next day. Whenever I find myself near swimmable water, I must swim. Sunbathing is bad for the skin, at least in my case: I'm a northerner after all. Too bad I don't get to swim as often as I did when there was a beach at the Gulf of Finland before some Chinese company took out a 90-year lease for that land and built a huge residential community that swallowed our lovely wild beach. The last time I went there, I met some Uzbek builders. They offered me some beer because they liked how they almost lost sight of me when I was in the middle of my swim ▲ Collapse | | | expressisverbis Португалия Local time: 23:04 Member (2015) English to Portuguese + ... A teleportation device... | Apr 8 |
When I travel, I mostly seek… a teleportation device to avoid the traffic and crowds, especially when heading to Porto. It’s like a real-life maze every time!
I have an appointment today...

I seek different things depending on if I travel for business or for pleasure.
And just in case this poll is related to the other tourism AI poll, I want to let it be clear: I don't seek for any AI assistant or bot; I rather prefer the human charm. | | | Ning Nie Австралия Local time: 08:04 English to Chinese + ...
I will seek local cuisine. For example, when I traveled to Japan, I visited Tokyo, Osaka, and Kobe. Each city had its unique flavors, from Tokyo’s fresh sushi and ramen alleys, to Osaka’s famous takoyaki and okonomiyaki, and finally to Kobe’s world-renowned Kobe beef. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: When I travel, I mostly seek...
