Greetings to all... taHiyaatii liljamii3...

The use of "Arabish" seems to be growing and growing, much due to the Internet and cell phones.

The terms for "mall" (as seen in and around Riyadh) include:

1. aswaaq Hadiitha أسواق حديثة

2. aswaaq أسواق

(understood to be a mall -- or a super-mall, in some instances -- by the size and spread of the shopping center which displays that sign)

3. mall (with Arabic spelling as مول )

The "brand names" of the malls are phoneticized into the Arabic, such as Carrefore, Geant, Granada Mall, SedHaan, etc.

Khair, in shaa' Allah.

Regards.

the name of the tool which we use to make the RJ plugs.
Believe it or not, I heard the name in a computer store in Cairo.

I've come across this word a few times in Egypt. It took me a while to understand what it was referring to. It turned out that computer technicians who install software on newly purchased computers are often kind enough to create a folder on your computer in which they place all the سورسات - these are the "source code" files of - very often illegally - installed software!

As far as I know, Nesrin, سورسات refer to the program setup files that you use to install various programs on the computer (Office applications, zipping programs, dictionaries, media players, etc) so that they can be easily reinstalled in case your were forced to remove a disfunctional program or your copy of Windows for whatever reason. They're named so because they're the source from which you can install your programs, and without which you can't reinstall these programs again! . "Source codes" is a totally different term. They're often used in programming contexts and refer to the programming scripts that are then translated into user-friendly interfaces.

I'm no expert as you can tell! I knew it comes from the word "source" and kind of understood it in the way you describe, but I guess my explanation went in a completely different direction. Thanks for clearing that up!
