Dear all,
I am asked to conduct a naming consultation which includes Egypt and Morocco - can you tell me which languages, besides Arabic (and French in Morocco) are spoken there?

In Egypt, besides Arabic there is some berber also in the Siwa Oasis and also coptic.

The Nubians south of Kumm Umbo speak their own, ancient language, which is not one of the Semitic languages. Nubian itself is made up of a number of different branches - Makas, Kunuz and Dongolawi (I am open to correction by other Nubians, if I am mistaken). For the majority of Nubians, Arabic is a second language with unpronouncable letters and too much gender suffixes
Among the Christian population, Coptic is making a slow, but persistent come-back.
As for the Arabic dialects there are quite a few - Sinai Arabs have one, Siwah speaks a different one. Bahri (Medditerraean) is known to use plural for first singular person. Qibli uses a much heavier, but delightful, Saidi dialect.
There is much more richness to Egypt than many are willing to admit.
