Greetings... ahalan wa sahalan... Kayyali's military dictionary is OK, as is the computer-generated dictionary edited by Ernest Kay. Another well-done and more-recent dictionary of military terms is: The Illustrated Military Dictionary (al-mu3jem al-3skarii al-muSawwer) المعجم العسكري المصوّر Author: Sherif al-Hadary Publisher data: Madbouli Bookstore, Cairo, Egypt, 2004 Pages: 1108 pages (E ... (This book includes an illustrated supplement of weapons systems in the back.) The author (a now-retired Colonel in the Egyptian Air Force) appears to have taken the US Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) "Dictionary of Military Terms" and rendered its terms and definitions into their Arabic equivalents. Biographical data indicate the author attended several military schools in the US (USAF and USMC) and UK. Hope this helps. Greetings again... ahalan wa sahalan... Thanks for your note. As best I understand and per the copies I have seen, that computer-generated military dictionary (edited by Kay) is only available in printed hard copy. May I mention another reference worth your considering if you plan to do a lot of military-related translating: "Brassey's Multilingual Military Dictionary." May I mention another reference worth your considering if you plan to do a lot of military-related translating: "Brassey's Multilingual Military Dictionary." Two editions of that Brassey's publication exist: 1. The original 1987 edition covers five languages, including Arabic (printed in UK). Available online from various vendors. 2. 2005 edition with six languages, including Persian (Farsi) (revised and printed by Imam Hossein University in Iran). Available from several bookstore in the US and UK. ------------------------------------------------------------------- While there are a very few online bilingual specialized (i.e., military & security-related topics) glossaries, they seem very awkward and cumbersome to access, search, and use.
