I have a partially translated bilingual Excel file and need to hide all rows where the target column is not empty. How do I do that? I guess this must be a fairly common task.

Filter and deselect (Blanks) Oct 19, 2018

I tried the following and it seems to work:
1. Select the target column
2. Under "Sort & Filter" in the Home ribbon, select "Filter". The header of the target column should now show a little arrow pointing down next to a funnel icon

Filter

3. Click the little filter arrow mentioned in #2. A drop-down menu will appear
4. The bottom pane in the drop-down window shows a pre-selected list of strings that starts with "(Select All)". Move to the bottom of this list and deselect "(Blanks)"

Filter our blanks

5. Click "OK", and you're done.

By setting sequence of target segments to translate by column first, move to next column after that, resulting texts will be arrayed to respective column, next and non-blank column.
This method is better applied when translating through CAT tools e.g. Trados, WordFast. Filtering of rows is not workable here, though (all rows and cells are shown).

To hide non-empty rows select (Blanks) only Oct 20, 2018

Just realized that the question was about hiding, not showing, non-empty rows.
In this case, follow steps 1-3 as in my previous answer, then:

4. Click on "(Select All)" at the top of the list do deselect all strings. All selections will now be unchecked

Filter

5. Move to the bottom of the list and select "(Blanks)"

Filter our blanks

6. Click "OK", and you're done.

Filter

Hope this helps.

Thanks everybody! Oct 20, 2018

Thanks everybody who has responded! The solution that worked for me was simply choosing the "Blank" filter for the target column.
