I'd push it to about ten o'clock for a good client and good rates, but there is nothing on this earth that could keep me from my bed for the whole night. Partly because I know I will still have to get up at seven to get the children to school and partly because I would be so exhausted that the translation quality would probably be compromised. It is simply not a risk worth taking.

I used to do so 2-3 times per year and paid a dear price. This is due to anxiety, urgency and competitiveness. It is not recommendable for anyone, regardless of health, gender, wealth, age. The world does not end if the project is not completed by that deadline and in the first place, simply do not take it at all. All the money goes into the medical bill.

There is an amount of money that I can name that would keep me out of bed, but it is an amount that I doubt any client would be willing to pay. If I stay up overnight for one client, I won't be able to continue to function the next day, and as Mary so rightly pointed out, quality would be compromised. I have no family or other commitments, but I just like staring the day off with some sleep behind me - I am a grumpy bugger without a good dose of shut-eye!

If overnight means "with no sleep at all", no, there's no way I'd do that.
For a long term customer with a good pay, I can work until 11 or 12 pm and start again around 7 am if really needed and on unique occasions, but I definitely need some sleep and I am not ready to spoil my health for my job.
I'd do no good work without sleep anyway.

I refuse to work overnight anymore as I'm too old, it's not good for my health and I wouldn't function properly anyway. Much better to get up early.

Same here. If I do it, it's because I didn't plan my time well, and that's not my client's fault.
That said, I wouldn't accept to do a job if I knew ahead of time that I'd have to work through the night.

Exactly. I had to do it once when I had mixed up two deadlines. Otherwise, no way!

Agree wholeheartedly with Ian here.
I had to work until 4 a.m. recently because of computer problems  . It hits you hard when you're in your 50's. You're in zombie mode and are a total wreck the following day and it takes at least a couple of days to fully recover. Leave that for the young 'uns still in their 20's.

I have never worked the whole night even when I was starting out. I do work quite often until 11 or 12 pm when the work is flowing well, but it's of my choosing...

I would probably work overnight for an urgent job with good rates and payment on delivery. After all, bills don't wait 30 days for payment.

A couple of times I have had to stay up very late working, but never all night. In both cases I had made a mistake and bitten off more than I could chew, so I had to work into the night to keep the deadlines I had stupidly promised. I would never accept an overnight job on purpose and, having learned my lesson the hard way, I now think very carefully before agreeing to a deadline.

Unless, of course, the client agreed to organize free dragging the kids out of bed and feeding them plus driving them to school and picking them up again and generally keeping them out of my hair the next day - followed by a weeks free vacation with pay somewhere peaceful, sunny and warm ...
