Per hour/my minimum fee Nov 25, 2010

I am charging one hour for all jobs that would - based on the wordcount - not amount to my hourly rate. But I have also set my hourly rate as minimum fee. Sometimes, make excpetions, but only for regular customers or when a job only contains 10-20 words

depends Nov 25, 2010

for my regular clients, who I invoice monthly , I charge my regular price pr. word - as I get anything between 2 and 3000 words per day from some of them. Others, I charge a minimum or hourly fee - but usually turn down the work, as opening projects and invoicing takes the same time for 250 words as for 10.000 - and not really worth the effort.

No minimum fee per job. for instance, one client of mine sends me a never-ending stream of jobs of all sizes, requiring one invoice for each. The smallest invoice so far was for $4, but actually it was paid together with a 4-digit one and several others.

lower workload, lower discount..... Nov 25, 2010

I usually do the opposite: I apply a discount for bulk translations, eg. books.

No major benefit for me, no major benefit for you.... and I usually ask for an advance payment from occasional clients, just in case.... you know.

Depends on the customer Nov 25, 2010

Usually I charge a minimum of 25€, but it all depends on the client. I don't charge longtime clients any minimum and just add it up together with all the invoices each month, and writing a invoice takes 3 minutes when you have a template for the client, so it's not that bad.

I don't really take on small translations from clients who are new to me anymore, as I still have so many small bills I always forget to send, and then they want you to wait 30-60 days for 25€, thanks but n

Other Nov 25, 2010

I only work for long time clients and invoice them once a month.

"Snacks" are often a forgotten paragraph/line, title or so of another job, they usually have the same PO number too (and are charged accordingly).

I charge per line, and for under 250 words I might charge a minimum or if it's a regular client, my usual rate.

250 words is three times my minimal charge Nov 25, 2010

My minimal charge is 15 Euro, but some customer say this is awfully much. Nice to hear that it is rather small.

It depends Nov 25, 2010

If it's a one-time client, I will refuse the job, as the transfer commissions will eat up most of the payment anyway.
Other than that, the criterion is simple: if jobs from this client are infrequent, or if the client insists on a separate invoice for each job, no matter how small, then I apply the minimum charge. On the other hand, if it's just a small file in a steady stream of bigger ones, I will happily charge the normal per-word rate and add an extra line to my monthly invoice.

Depends on the client Nov 25, 2010

If it's a new client, I charge a minimal rate.
If it's a regular client, I charge by the word and invoice it with another larger project. I just have to remember to add a note to self on my invoice.
