Making my own Jun 1, 2010

... seems the most logical and easiest way for me. I come from a generation that harbours a healthy suspicion of technology, and many of my contemporaries are functionally computer illiterate through choice.
For example, I don't like Outlook either and try never to use it, simply because it does things without being instructed to.

Not rocket science Jun 1, 2010

IMO, creating invoices is not rocket science and nor is tracking their payment, so, quite frankly, I do not see the point of invoicing software, but I'm sure that others can see a major benefit in using such software. It's not for me, though - I'd rather spend my money on something more useful to me!

ProZ Jun 1, 2010

I always use the ProZ invoice page, even if the job hasn't come through the web site, it is included in the service and is very precise.

do it myself Jun 1, 2010

I use Excel for most of my invoices. For clients overseas, i like the PROZ invoices which make it easy to choose the currency.

I use MSWord for creating my Invoice Jun 1, 2010

I have created a generic type customized invoice format using MS word for all my clients. However, I have few clients who have their own invoice format which I use for billing to them. I generally fill up the info in the invoice format and then convert it into PDF format and send to the client.

TO3000 + MS Word Jun 1, 2010

I use TO 3000 for project management and it has a feature to prepare the invoice.

However I haven't yet fully customise the invoice template so I use a MS Word invoice template of my own where I just have to copy/paste the relevant informations.

One day ... i'll try to create my own invoice template in TO 3000...

Excel Jun 1, 2010

I like using Excel because it helps me do the maths. Then it's just a case of converting it into a pdf and sending it off to the client. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who uses invoicing software on the real pros and cons though.

Make my own Jun 1, 2010

I use Excel to keep records of my jobs. The payment criteria vary so widely (per word, per flat rate, hour, different types of services, etc.) that I have wondered if it would be safe to automate the process.

However, I'm open to suggestions, inasmuch as invoicing is my least-favorite task.

Invoicing software for translators is sensible Jun 1, 2010

I have started to use it regularly even if some posts do not come via ProzCom. The reason is simple: easy access, design and monitoring of invoices readily available and software designed for translators. Why should I want to do it the "old way"? It saves time and money for me and allow my own statistics.

Forgive the snipping - I hope it does not misrepresent the crux of the matter.

I know a couple of blokes who worked for Rolls Royce engines, and they absolutely refuse to fly. I used to work in IT, and in a similar way, while I cannot reject computers completely, I remain on my guard at all times. I don't write invoices by hand, but the data entry (in Word) remains manual.
I certainly would not entrust such data or such a service to a third party.

I use it, I like it, it is a very convenient tool. Jun 1, 2010

I use and enjoy it. With a couple of adjustments (developers!) it could be used for producing estimates. This tool is very convenient and easily customizable. Also, from the invoice you can save the record of each project to your portfolio.

TO 3000 Jun 1, 2010

I used to create my invoices by hand and track them in a self-designed Excel worksheet. However, I have recently been involved in a project where the client sent through a number of small jobs on a daily basis. These were then invoiced at periodic intervals. I found the tracking of jobs / payments / invoice creation a pain, so I looked around for an automated program.

I have just invested in TO 3000. Whilst it took a little bit of time to configure the custom template to fit with my company's design, I am now very happy and can both track the projects and generate the appropriate invoices quickly and easily.

Excel Jun 1, 2010

Along with many others, I use Excel for invoices and to track accounts. I have developed the spread sheets over the years, and most clients now have a specific invoicing spreadsheet that I modify for the month/project and then save as a pdf file.
I enter the variables, including currency, and it does the math.
It doesn't do anything unless it is told to do so.
My main workbook tracks my accounts by quarter, taxes paid, monthly and annual expenses, and income.

It works, it's not broken, and I see no reason to fix it.

Invoicing software Jun 1, 2010

I use both Proz invoicing system for my foreign customers (in US$ or Euros) and my personal invoicing template (for Mexican based customers).
