Bio
I first became interested in translation in 2007, while I was an MA student in Romance Languages at the University of British Columbia. I took on a summer position as a French-English translator/reviser for a local tech company, who was looking to create a texting-based translation program. After the short assignment, I began doing some smaller translation projects for the university (including a project for the UBC Botanical Garden), professors (articles, presentations), and my fencing school (in Italian and Spanish).

After I completed my MA programme in 2008, I moved to Toronto to begin my PhD programme in French Linguistics at the University of Toronto. While quite busy with my course work and my thesis, I still worked as a translator for smaller projects during my programme, and began working full-time as a freelance translator (French and Spanish) in September 2014. My main areas of expertise are in the legal (wills, court documents, contracts), medical (pathology reports, patient histories, dentistry, letters), business (internal communications, HR material, employee handbooks, reports, etc.), and academia/education (history, linguistics, and literature in particular), though I also have experience in the other fields mentioned on my profile.

I enjoy the research aspect that is involved in translation, as well as the opportunity it provides me to fully utilize the skills that I acquired as a language teacher and student. Some of my goals for the next few years are to complete my translations of several fencing treatises (Spanish, Italian, and French) into English, and apply to be a translator or reviser for the UN.
