: old AND worn. If Asker needs Italian, suggest she does a google on "distressed jeans", looks at the pictures, and uses the Italian adjective that the fashon trade uses for them.....

Old, worn, distressed... Are you talking about me, Charlie?

: I've come across it as "effetto vissuto" in Italian

I think it's more like "effetto anticato", or even "effetto usato" as Rachel suggests.

antiqued
That´s another option, because in this site they have both "distressed and antiqued", which are closely related, but not exactly the same. I guess the Italian word for "antiqued" would work fine.

Thanks, Jessica...I think it is talking about the print/cloth, but have given another option also, since the "asker" believes it is referring to the tree

: Yes, because it is talking about the colour, or the colour of the print, not the material.

worn (down/away)
It means a worn, eroded effect - maybe "usato"? - like clothing that has been washed and wrung a lot (also used of paint effects - compare definitions for distressed painting vs. antiqued painting via this page http://www.anniesloan.com/search.html) The distressed/worn effect shows itself as unevenly lightened areas.
Distressing
A technique for simulating the effects of wear and tear on a newly painted surface.
Antiquing
A technique for simulating the effect of time and wear on a freshly painted surface. Also called Ageing.

Also, I agree with Charlie Bavington\'s comment above - check out distressed denim and antiqued denim on the web (or in some shops?).
