I think that there must be a "dash mark" on one of the sides of the button. A dash is a line, a hyphen, it looks like this: -
So to turn the unit on, the button should be pushed toward the dash mark (the side of the button with this mark - )

I just had a thought: some equipment have buttons with a dash
\"-\" on one side, and a little empty circle \"O\" on the other. My coffeemaker is like that. When the button is pushed to the \"-\" side, it is on. When the button is turned to the \"O\" side, it is off.
So to turn the unit on, the button should be pushed toward the dash mark (the side of the button with this mark - )
