I rather agree with Hugo that this is the rather colloquial use of 'to come across' (also sometimes 'come over') meaning 'to be perceived as', or perhaps better here, 'to be interpreted as'
For example: "At first meeting, he comes across [or: comes over] as a rather quiet man, but one you get to know him, you'll see that he's really a barrel of laughs."
However, Ann's more literal interpretation as 'to transfer' is also possible, it may not be possible to tell without more context to help.
