ballet question

English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting ballet
Hi folks, I'm working from Italian into English and there is an enormous mixup of languages by the writer.
It's a ballet program, but sometimes I find "etoile" (also ètoile and étoile, depending on whether the writer's shift key was operative or not!). And I have "primo ballerino".
I've done some research and have found "leading dancer", but is that the same as an etoile?
For example, I have:
Anton Bogov, primo ballerino, Irena Veterova, étoile – Maribor Opera
If etoile is commonly used, does the "e" get accented in English?
TIA a whole lot!

Following her training at the Conservatoire de Paris and the Ecole de Danse de l’Opéra, Isabelle Guérin joined the Paris Opéra Ballet in 1978. Quickly conquering the ranks of the company’s hierarchy, her first soloist roles included Carabosse in Rosella Hightower’s Sleeping Beauty, Kitri in Nureyev’s Don Quixote, and Myrtha in Giselle. At the end of her performance as Odette-Odile in Bourmeister’s Swan Lake on November 2, 1985 she was nominated étoile by Rudolf Nureyev.

\"étoile\" is the highest rank in the Paris Opera Ballet. I would leave the term as \"étoile\" (with the accent) as it is definitely used in English. It does differ, however, from \"leading /principal dancer\" so it is important to make the distinction.

a leading dancer is the main character like in a play. An étoile (keep the accent) is a highly talented dancer who has been training and dancing for at least 8 years

whether or not it is a term that would be used in a UK company (the sources talk about work in French companies, etc), folowers of ballet clearly are expected to be familiar with it, as these highly respectable sources show.

agree Tanja Abramovic (X) : Basically, most ballet terms are of French origin and they should be kept in the target language. Those terms are well understood throughout the world.
