It is the production tooling that holds the moulds used to produce plastic parts in injection moulding. In its simplest configuration it consists of:
- a stationary plate to which the front half of the mould is attached (typically the cavity)
- a moveable plate which carry the other half of the mould (core)
- a support and guidance system for the moveable plate (typically 4 cylindrical pins)

Ejector plates, attached to an hydraulic piston, operates the ejection pins that separates the moulded part after cooling.

Los patines siguen canales cortados en la línea de partición en lugar de bebederos, que llevan el material al centro de la placa del molde. Su diseño afecta a la calidad de la pieza y a la eficacia del moldeo.
Los patines más gruesos pueden hacer que las presiones de llenado sean demasiado altas y provocar tiempos de ciclo largos no deseados. A la inversa, las correderas gruesas pueden alargar innecesariamente el tiempo de ciclo y aumentar los costes asociados al reafilado. Runners follow channels cut into the parting line, as opposed to sprues, which deliver material into the center of the mold plate. Their design affects part quality and molding efficiency.
Thicker runners can make filling pressures too high and cause unwanted long cycle times. Conversely, thick runners can cause unnecessary lengthening of cycle time and increases in costs associated with regrinding. The optimal runner design must strike a balance between mould feasibility and filling pressures.
