• Via the signal-adapting box under the breaking tables, connect the force transducer to the 2 mV input of the recorder and the displacement meter to the 1 V input, set the chart speed to 200 mm/min and energise the signal-adapting box and the recorder.
Press a thumb against the force transducer a few times, to make the recorder pen deflect; then set the pen to 0 scale units with the zero adjustment knob, press against the force transducer again, release the pressure and check whether the pen returns to zero.
