German term

darin befindend(en)

German to English Social Sciences History
From the minutes of a parish meeting (1878) in Nebraska, USA: “Darauf wurde bestimmt daß die Schule noch ein Woche nach der darin befindenden abgehalten werden sollte.”

There is no other context to work with here. The previous sentences were about the appointment of cemetery trustees, and the following sentences involve a messy situation between the pastor and a departing member of the congregation.

So, I read this as "After that, it was decided that school should be held for another week after the...?????" The last phrase looks like "being found in it" to me, so makes no sense...

Good morning Timoshka Your last idea makes perfect sense. "It was then decided that school would continue for another week (following this one/the current one).

@Lancashireman and Justin Reeve I just checked the date of this parish meeting, which was held on Wednesday, July 3, 1878. Could they be saying: "After that, it was decided that school should be held for another week after the one we're in" i.e. after this week?
Timoshka (asker) Mar 10, 2021:
@Lancashireman Like I said, there is no context for this. The preceding sentence involves a totally different topic: “Darauf wurde für gut erachtet da die Trustees über das ganze Gemeindegut gesetzt wären, daß er dabei bleiben thäte und 2tens wurde vom Herm. Wilken von einigen behauptet daß er zu den Ordfellaus [=Oddfellows] gehören thäte, welches letzterer jedoch für unwahr erklärte, so wurde bestimmt daß die 3 Trustees bleiben sollten.”
Lancashireman Mar 10, 2021:
nach der darin befindenden What was the last noun preceding this sentence? 'Darin' refers back to it.
= after the one (i.e. week) forming part of it (i.e. last noun mentioned)

German term (edited): [noch ein Woche] nach der darin befindenden
Selected

[a further week] after the one in which the meeting was held

Date of meeting Wednesday 03/07/1878
Summer term originally scheduled to end 05/07/1878
New end of term (and of academic year) 12/07/1878
Because these are minutes, the decision and the new dates are reported in the past tense.

additional

They seem to be saying that school is going to be held for an additional week over and above normal.

as was decided

It was then determined that the school should be kept open for a week longer than was originally decided therein.

So there was some other document that stipulated a certain time when the school would stop, but the term is now being extended.
