German term

Sammelstörung

German to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
I cannot seem to find the correct term for this word in English.
Control technology specifications.

Two examples:

Der Ausfall ist über eine Sammelstörmeldung zu melden.
or
Leuchtmelder Sammelstörung (rot)

The second one is in a list defining the red and green indicator lamps in the control cabinet's door.

This relates to control cabinet technology. I've found "internal error" but I'm really not sure.

Any help greatly appreciated....

Thank you everyone! In the end, I used general fault, because that was the term that was used at the company I used to work for. David's answer reminded me of the fact...

general fault

That is certainly the term used all those years ago when I worked on the footplate. Any fault in fact which meant that the whole machine would not work; the fault would normally have been in the power supply circuits, or a main safety device.
Note from asker:
Thanks, David! Yes, I believe we used that one, too....
Peer comment(s):

neutral David Williams : Admittedly it boils down to the same thing in the end, but surely that would be "allgemeiner Fehler" in German, and not the Sammelstörung itself.

Overall or total failure, overall interference or breakdown, total breakdown, overall disturbance

It can also be collective failure. If you separate the two words the meaning of sammel means collective, accumulative. But collective failure sounds more appropriate than accumulative.

group fault

This is the term used by Siemens, for example.

Siemens also uses "group error" sometimes.
Example sentence:

Störungsanzeige für Sammelstörung

Fault display for group fault
